As we continue to highlight Women’s History Month, Sharebite is honored to spotlight inspiring women who are shaping the restaurant industry with bold ideas and unwavering passion. We had the pleasure of sitting down with the founder of Noona Noodles, a vibrant restaurant that blends Korean flavors with New York nostalgia. From the meaning behind the name “Noona” to the unique dishes that reflect her personal journey, this interview showcases the creativity, perseverance, and community spirit that make her story so compelling. Together with her mother, she’s built a restaurant that embodies warmth, individuality, and the power of family.
Q: Can you describe the story behind your restaurant's name and what it represents?
A: Noona, meaning older sister for a younger brother in Korean. We want to keep the vibe warm and sassy with bold and comforting flavors.
Q: What is the backstory of Noona Noodles?
A: Noona Noodles came to life when my mom and I joined forces. She’s the best business partner I could’ve asked for. We imagined playful ways to talk about our dishes, and how we could combine the nostalgia of growing up in New York with traditional Korean flavors.
Q: As a restaurant owner, what advice do you have for other women looking to follow in your footsteps?
A: You have to play the long game. Sharpen your knives and put your best foot forward every service and every meal. Embrace the climb and stay strong.
Q: How do you envision the future of women in restaurant owners and entrepreneurship evolving in the coming years?
A: Women entrepreneurship will keep growing strong. It’s not a newsflash to see a woman at the head of the table. I’d love to continue to watch and experience women supporting each other to get to the top.
Q: What inspired your menu?
A: Growing up as a Korean American in New York is the heart of our menu. We had so much fun walking down memory lane, laughing and experimenting in the kitchen. It was pure joy to reconnect with my family and match each other’s strengths.
Q: What makes your business unique?
A: Our team! Everyone contributes a diverse point of view. It starts from the prep in the kitchen down to the small touches in our service.
Q: Of all the dishes you offer, which do you recommend for a first-time customer?
A: The COWBOY RAMEN! With Korean BBQ steak as a base ingredient over shoyu ramen, we top it off with American, Pepper jack cheese, and a fried egg with greens. It’s a nod to the “Texas Burger” we’d get at a New York diner growing up. Newcomers seem intrigued by what feels classic American while introduced to Korean flavors.
Q: What do you love most about working with Sharebite?
A: It’s an adrenaline rush to start the morning strong before we even open up. It sets the tone and gives us motivation for the day. It allows us to hit the ground running.
